Психическое здоровье в значительной степени зависит от аффективного состояния, которое определяют эмоции, реакции на стресс, импульсы и фон настроения. Эти состояния определяют то, как мы думаем, чувствуем и ведем себя, поддерживая адаптивное функционирование. Однако в некоторых случаях они могут неблагоприятно сказываться на психическом здоровье за счет неадаптивных процессов формирования и/или регуляции аффекта. В настоящей работе мы представляем комплексную систему для осмысления роли формирования и регуляции аффекта при психических расстройствах и жизненного благополучия. В рамках нашей модели формирование аффекта понимается как итеративный цикл внимания, оценки и ответа на жизненные ситуации. Регуляция аффекта рассматривается как итеративная последовательность решений, направленная на преобразование формирования аффекта. Решения, связанные с регуляцией аффекта, включают в себя идентификацию того, что, при необходимости, должно быть изменено в аффекте, отбор стратегии вмешательства в цикл формирования аффекта, выбор того, как реализовать это вмешательство, и мониторинг попытки регуляции, чтобы решить, продолжать ли ее поддерживать, перенаправить или приостановить. Проблемы с этими решениями, часто возникающие из-за ошибочных входных данных для них, могут способствовать манифестации проблем психического здоровья, таких как клинические симптомы, синдромы и расстройства. Модель имеет определенную значимость для клинической оценки и лечения.
